As highlighted in the Daily Telegraph, we worked alongside the PPF and Gamble Aware to create a modern and functional website. With a surge in referrals for treatment as well as alarming research concluding top level sports professionals are three times more likely to develop a gambling addiction than the general public, action needed to be taken.

Working in collaboration with our client we designed and developed a modern, easy to use website which hosts a range of videos, resources and information targeted at sportsmen and women.

As with all of the websites we design, www.ppfpg.org.uk uses language and tone that are appropriate to the audience. In this case simple but powerful calls to action such as, ‘spotting a problem’ ‘are you struggling?’ and ‘breaking the habit’ are used to take the viewer to the right area of the site. The site is made up of four key areas, player support, video, resources and about the PPF. As video is now the nations favourite way of viewing content (over 70% of all content viewed on mobiles is video) this is a great way to engage with the target audience.  The videos feature exclusive testimonies from former Premier League players Clarke Carlisle and John Hartson and former professional Scott Davies, who open up about their gambling addictions and the devastating effects.

The resources section includes an online awareness test, created to identify the extent of the problem and the participant’s knowledge of support available/how to get help.  It also includes warning signs, advice, and links to additional resources on partner organisations websites. The player support area hosts helplines and web links to relevant sports associations and charities specifically for sports professionals. Simon Taylor, from PPF commented,

“First Media really listened to what we wanted and delivered a first rate, website within our budget. They contributed their own ideas and professional experience to support and develop our vision for an interactive learning resource for athletes. We are really pleased with the end result and are confident it will help to tackle and prevent gambling problems among sports professionals.”

We believe that the website is a powerful educational tool and will help sports professionals in the first hurdle to recovery which is to seek help.
